There are two seats for Select Board and four candidates.
CHERYL S. SULLIVAN
Why are you running for the Select Board?
Dedham's budget and spending are out of control. The contract for the meters with MPS should never been signed or agreed to. Dedham guaranteed MPS $200 a month per 150 meters whether we take it in or not. According to figures I have viewed, this contract was all for MPS and now we will still owe MPS their guarantee. I am the only candidate that has read this contract and voiced concern. When elected, I'm sure I will find other ways to save the town money. Our budget for FY2023 as of now is up 9% to 10,856,232. It needs to be scrubbed and expenditures need to be identified as a "need or want". We also need to look at "sewer costs" and try to reduce this burden on the taxpayer.
What are your qualifications relative to this position?
I have a strong financial, real estate and contract background. Currently I am an Accountant for a major company. I can read a spread sheet, budget and also contracts and understand them. I am also proficient in Zoning in Dedham. New Zoning laws may be coming in the future. You can always reach me about concerns, and I will look into the facts and get back to you.
I am currently the Chair for the Board of Assessors of which I was elected to in 2018 and the Co-chair for the Taxation Aid Committee. I know our budget, taxes and spending. I will not form my own opinion as I represent the "People" and it should be the People that decide.
We can do better with our spending.
What are your top priorities for Dedham's future?
Respect needs to be for EVERYONE.
The budget and all town contracts need to be vetted. We need to be informed how much some contracts are actually costing us. Our budget is growing faster than most people can afford to pay.
Taxes: Some of our homeowners are Veterans and Seniors and because of the property tax increases are getting squeezed. I will continue to work for more incentives to help reduce this burden for everyone. We are in desperate need of housing for the disabled, 55 and over and Veterans. I have worked with HUD and bring this experience to the Select Board. We have the most talented people in Dedham.
We all need to work together. Thank you

ERIN BOLES WELSH
Why are you running for the Select Board?
My name is Erin Boles Welsh and I am running for a seat on the Select Board. I grew up in Dedham, in a hardworking union family. Now, I am raising my three children here with my husband, and supporting my mother in our home. As your next Select Board Member, I will bring us together, respectfully, to address the challenges and opportunities facing our town. I will work to carefully gather information and facts, understand the clear concerns on all sides of the issues, and engage the whole community to build consensus early and often. I will work to collaboratively create a vision for our town that not only meets our needs today, but looks ahead to deliver a legacy for future generations. What are your qualifications relative to this position?
What are your top priorities for Dedham's future? I will advocate for effective policies that support our economy, recreation and housing needs — while maintaining transparency to tax-payers. I will provide the thoughtful, balanced, and measured leadership needed to build consensus early; bringing our community together to solve problems, and keeping policy debate honest and respectful. DIMITRIA SULLIVAN
Why are you running for the Select Board?
For All of Dedham is not just my campaign slogan; it's who I am. I've always believed in the greater good, community service, and working together. We are at a time when we need to embrace new ideas and maximize opportunity while never forgetting our most at risk. All residents should have a voice, and it should be heard and respected. Dedham succeeds with a vision for the future while embracing its rich history. As a member of the Board, I will continue to listen and work with elected/appointed officials, ensuring that government serves all regardless of who they are, what part of town they live, which way they lean politically or if they are publicly vocal or not. What are your qualifications relative to this position? I've proudly served on our School Committee, Town Meeting, Capital Expenditures & School Improvement committees, PTO President, the Dedham Educational Partnership, and Select Board. Working with community members, I listened and learned. Dedham is well managed. We've maintained an excellent bond rating, have dedicated staff, and our first responders do an outstanding job. We have great services, including some you may not think about, such as curbside trash pick-up & a robust snow removal plan. We've made remarkable strides in rebuilding our lagging infrastructure with solid leadership and planning. In two decades, what we've accomplished can rival or exceed any neighboring towns. What are your top priorities for Dedham's future? My vision includes continuing my work on pedestrian safety and transportation systems, ensuring that we set recovery priorities from the Pandemic, including the mental health crisis affecting our community, children, and our economy and manage our financial sustainability and the burden on our taxpayers. As the current chair, I have worked diligently to ensure that the community can voice opinions, concerns, and recommendations. In turn, through agenda items, statements, conversations, emails, and social media platforms, I have worked tirelessly to acknowledge and address these concerns, and I would continue to do so. |
